The cleanliness of your baseboards will make or break the overall feel of your home. As a result, no matter how clean and tidy the rooms themselves are, dirty baseboards will make the whole home feel dirty.

Fortunately, baseboards are designed to be cleaned easily and they are often painted with semi-gloss paint, which can be scrubbed without causing any damage. In this article, we’ll cover how to clean baseboards in two different ways depending on how dirty they are.

How to Clean Baseboards

Level 1 Baseboard Cleaning – The Maintenance Clean

This method for cleaning baseboards is best used when your baseboards are looking just a bit dusty and dull. Add this simple one-step cleaning to your weekly cleaning regimen and use it between deep-cleans.

Instructions:

1. Dust baseboards with an extendable duster. Swiffer makes a duster with an extendable handle so you don’t even have to bend over to reach your baseboards. Simply walk around your home and run the duster over all of your baseboards. Plus, the duster even has an adjustable head so you can angle it however you want, which means you can use your Swiffer all over the house, even to dust your ceiling fans!

Level 2 Baseboard Cleaning – The Deep Clean

However, if your baseboards are so dirty that simply dusting them didn’t make them sparkle, then it’s time to proceed to Level 2 Cleaning.

Instructions:

1. Purchase a sprayable cleaner. Krud Kutter Cleaner/Degreaser is extremely effective for cleaning baseboards (and many other areas of your home).

2. Spray down your baseboards and wipe them with a damp cloth. Check out the video above at 2:02 for a demonstration.

To clean those unsightly scuff marks off your baseboards, simply use a dampened Magic Eraser to scrub them right off.
